Tips to Assess the Quality of Different Kinds of Fabrics

As much as end consumers like their wardrobe to make a style statement, the ultimate test of any clothing is the quality of its fabric. One would dispose off a trendy, flashy summer collection just for a piece of clothing that sits comfortably on one’s body. As such, the fabric that constitutes their outfit choice holds the utmost importance.

Although quality is a very subjective term, in general, we can agree that the quality of a fabric must render it durable, comfortable and allow for the skin to “breathe” through it. Even then so, different materials carry different standards for their fabric quality. With the help of our expert designers and fabric sourcing team, we came up with this guide that helps find out the quality of various fabrics. Let’s have a look at some:

  1. Cotton

There is no doubt that long cotton fibre is of a higher quality than cotton of a shorter staple length. The reason is that longer fibres are not only soft to touch but also last longer. The best way to estimate if the cotton material you want to purchase is made with long-staple fibres is by holding it up to light. Ideally, it should not be transparent and there should be no gaps standing out between individual threads. The texture of the cotton will also reveal its quality upon touch.

  1. Linen

This all-time summer favourite not only looks cool, but is also literally a cool fabric, that is, it is breathable and dries quickly. Made from flax fibres, this stylish fabric wrinkles easily, therefore, one must check for any pre-existing creases upon buying. The fabric should not be rough, especially when it is mixed with cotton, as that signifies short or low quality fibres used.

  1. Wool

A natural occurring fabric on the skin of some animals, the quality of wool depends on the health of its original holder. Apart from that, any processing errors like holes or gaps between the fabric’s individual threads must be thoroughly checked.High-end ones like merino wool are elastic and bounce back upon pulling.

  1. Denim

An everyday fabric, denim has found its place in every household. Due to this material’s flooding the market on account of its popularity, there have been various notions on what a good-quality denim is. If the fabric is soft and has been stitched in a way that the yarns are tightly woven, it signifies a high-quality denim.

With these tips and hacks to access quality, we encourage buyers to always opt for the best garments. And as far as our quality is concerned, we make sure that we constantly do a stringent check, so the clients needn’t have to worry at all!

Thank you for your article about the different quality of fabrics. It’s interesting to learn that the longer the cotton fiber is, the softer and higher the quality will be. I’d remember holding the fabric against a light source to check if it’s made of long or short cotton strands. I imagine a great fabric dealer will tell me more about choosing a high-quality fabric.
